Lefkada, the “white void” a colony of the ancient Corinthians that opened up the Isthmus to spend with their ships northward. Here born top artists and scientists with international recognition – which is not surprising, since the environment that descended is the island of a rare combination of quiet beauty in the east wilderness west. The islanders keep their pace and their tradition of the past, and the town, which also is the island’s capital (Chora), is a typical example of medieval town planning. Archaeological excavations in the cosmopolitan Nidri, highlighted findings from the Bronze Age as the theory given, that the island is identified with Homer’s Ithaca. Activities for nature lovers
Hiking in 7 km length track – the walk Gyra. You start from ponte, you arrive at the lagoon, encounter the vastness of the sea. You pass a big bridge with 360 arches and arrive at thevilla Kalkani, see tubes of the old aqueduct parts to have survived in the lagoon and birds that rest on them – also will come across four windmills!
For lovers of yachts and sailing Lefkada located in the Ionian Sea between the islands of Corfu, Kefalonia, Ithaka, Zante and Paxi-also located within a cluster of smaller islands that surround the landscape of Lefkada – the islands Madouri, Scorpio, Meganisi, Kalamos, Kastos or Princes -the complex is considered one of the best areas in the world for sailing or excursions by boat.
Basilica -the paradise of surfers is among the ten best in the world and among the three best in Europe for windsurfing. Here conducted international watersports festival .On the west side of the sea coast is permanently calm.
The area Mylonas summer flooded with hundreds of riders coming from all over the world to make kite surf and wind surf. This beach has almost daily from May to September thermal winds north-westerly direction and intensity of 4-6 Beaufort, creating excellent conditions for sportsmen who have experience and good technique. In recent years in Lefkada conducted international Kite surf competitions.

Pefkoulia -Great sandy beach with clear waters and pine forest that reaches the sand. It is organized to a point but after the big rock is a nudist area.

Mediterranean flavors & local products
In Lefkada you will find countless taverns for fresh fish- Try fish and seafood, ask favorite of locals (eel baked, salted cod, cuttlefish cooked in its ink with rice, open pie with fish). For taste bread or accompanying wine and whiskey, ‘Lefkada’s salami’ is a local product to take with you when leaving. Further, sausages from pork, the famous Eglouvi lentils, roe from ibari lagoon (traditional fishing technique).
‘Soumada’ if offered, to know that this is a cooling drink made from orangeflower water and concentrated syrup of bitter almonds. Basic local products are also oil and wine and VardeaVertzami while there are notable wineries. Looking for simplicity with style? Find Kouzounteli or Kouzoumpei position, under centenarian olive trees, huge trees and poplars, survive two traditional cafes serving preserves, delicious fried potatoes, underwater vanilla and soumada (orgeat) with nut anise.
In Nidri is located the ” Piperi Restaurant ” which serves delicious pizzas and Greek specialties in a friendly environment. The ” Rachi ” is located at Exanthiain Lefkada and is a ” must ” destination for those who want to enjoy a unique view! But you will definitelydon’t be disappointed by the delicious dishes! For a quiet dinner by the sea, the ” Seven Islands ” in Lygia is what you are looking for! The Seafood appetizers and special dishes will make your experience unique! Lefkada is connected to mainland Greece via a floating bridge. The distance from Athens is 355 km and the journey takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes -Ongoing construction of Ionia Odos motorway. Connect with Egnatia highway from Thessaloniki, where the journey takes 4 hours and 30 minutes.
